ShopStyle + Fashion Fringe for #LFW

Before I break for my long awaited (beach!) holiday I thought I’d share with you my latest illustrations for ShopStyle UK for London Fashion Week just passed.

It was such a joy to do a beauty piece, I rarely ever illustrate portraits so this was something different and detailed at the same time. The illustration below was created for their compact mirror case, which was gifted to all Fashion Fringe guests and will be gifted to some London Fashion Weekend shoppers this weekend. I love how it’s turned out!

My second splash piece was mainly for the Vodafone London Fashion Weekend event and all ShopStyle advertorials to the run up:

Close-up here:

I’ll be visiting London Fashion Weekend tmr so I’ll take loads of photos of the illustration on the boards and ShopStyle stand. Love seeing my illustrations blown up to such a visually demanding size!

I’d like to thank Fashion Fringe and ShopStyle for asking me to take part in their fashion illustration competition, judging the winning entry alongside Colin McDowell (yes, what a drum roll). Again, congratulations to Maja Beus who was selected as the winner! And here are some snaps from the Fashion Fringe show itself and the exciting moment when Haizhen Wang was announced as this year’s winner.

Of course, the evening didn’t end without me doing a few quick sketches >_<”

Thank you ShopStyle UK again and roll on next year!

Photos of the Process: My #IAPF2 painted banner

Happy Wednesday all! I know it’s been a few weeks since the exciting International Press Festival but I thought I would share with you my painting process for the letter “S” banner I illustrated for the stage design.

It wasn’t a complex design at all but it was fun and easy to paint! I might open out my box of acrylics again when I have time! >_<”

I started by pencilling out my pattern on a sheet of A1 presentation paper:

This was followed by layering what I was going to paint on with white acrylic just to prime the paper. The paper had to be thin enough to float on stage and the paint would have bled so priming needed to be done.

Then, I mixed acrylic ink with the acrylic white to form my main colours:

Painting away…

Once the base painting was completed I was ready for the next stage…

I just added the details with a marker pen. I could have used acrylic black but wanted a super-clean line:

After the marker-pen I filled in sections with acrylic black:

A close up of the final pattern – enjoy!

International Press Festival – Inking Workshop 5th August

Please note: my inking workshop is now fully booked at the #IAPF but there are plenty of wonderful workshops going on that you can attend! Hope to see you there! x

Happy Monday all! If you’re UK based I hope you enjoyed the sunshine over the weekend, it looks like this week will be sunny too so let’s make the most of it! Ice-creams all round :)

This is just a quick announcement to say that during the long awaited International Press Festival (Conway Hall near Holborn Tube, London 4th & 5th August), I will be holding an inking workshop just after 3pm on Sun 5th August which will run until 4.30pm.

This is a free workshop and I will cover the inking basics and the main techniques when approaching ink painting. It’s going to be very practical – I will demonstrate the techniques but you will also be dabbing into the inks yourself and painting whatever you decide to paint on the day!

If you’re an aspiring ink-ist then I recommend you come along, it’s very rare that I talk about inking so it will be really fun. It’s not about inking a pencilled drawing in comic style, it will focus on illustration painting with coloured inks.

Tickets to the International Press Festival can be brought on the door and are £3 – this includes the small press market (where I will be selling my small press and art prints too!) and speakers etc. If you have your own brush pens and watercolour brushes please bring these along, if not, let me know on booking if you’d like to buy a set for £4.50.

To get an idea of the numbers and to ensure I have a brush set for you if needed, I prefer to have bookings made in advance so,

EMAIL ME TO BOOK A PLACE NOW!

Illustrations for Summer: Net-a-porter

I keep forgetting to post updates about my fashion illustration projects so before summer runs out of fashion (although ironically, this must be the most depressing summer in the UK anyway!) I should update you with these little runway illos I drew for Net-a-porter’s Spring Summer ’12 magazine. They were so fun to illustrate! Enjoy!

Don’t forget I will be at the London Film & Comic Con this weekend selling my small-press and art prints. Click here for more information and visiting times.

Hope to see you there!

Summer wind defence! The trophy jacket…

So it seems that when it’s not busy raining here in the UK, it’s very windy! And since I don’t like wearing coats when it’s supposed to be summer, I figured that this must be jacket weather. But why wear any old jacket when you could have a trophy jacket? Something special, stand out and makes you look really cool even if you’re just wearing a plain tee and jeans. Uh-huh…

Well, I don’t actually own a trophy jacket*, but if I did, I would rock it during this crazy UK weather!

*I lost my last jacket somewhere in a bar and haven’t managed to buy a new one so I have been wrapping myself up with a huge winter scarf that is bright pink so, it kinda feels summery!

Enjoy the sketch! :)

Summer events: where I will be selling my small-press!

Last week was looking up just after my Summer Rain post – we had a day of sunshine, but now it seems that it’s going to rain again. Oh weather, I do hope you cheer up! =_=”

I do have something to look forward to this summer though, even if it does continue to rain. I’ll be attending two more events in London to sell my small-press and art prints:

Sat 7th – Sun 8th July London Film and Comic Con

http://www.londonfilmandcomiccon.com/

I’ll be in the artist alley section with Van Nim from Capes & Drapes selling my small-press and art prints. That is, if I’m not stalking the stars that will be attending such as Anthony Michael Hall (Breakfast Club, Weird Silence), Michael Winslow (the sound effects cop from Police Academy) or Al Leong (the dude who played Genghis Khan in Bill & Ted). Have a look at the guest line-up on their site and the range of artists who will be there, it sounds like it’s going to be really interesting!

Tickets range from £5 – £12 and more (depending on how involved with the stars you want to be!). It’s held in Earls Court, London.

Buy Tickets for the LFCC

Sat 4th – Sun 5th August 2nd International Alternative Press Festival

http://www.alternativepress.org.uk/

I’ll be selling my small-press and art prints at the 2nd International Alternative Press Festival alongside many other self-publishers, printmakers and artists. This will be a really fun event and there will be activities on both days for everyone to get creative.

I’ll be hosting a workshop on basic inking techniques for those interested in trying inks and anything water based painting. The details of this workshop are tbc but I’ll announce the day/time closer to the event!

It’s held in the Conway Hall by Holborn, ticketing information to be announced soon…

And just because we’re coming up to the Olympics and we’ve finished celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee I thought I’d share an unused illo of mine – quite Brit inspired, enjoy!

Fashion sketches: coping with the summer rain!

So, for those who are based in the UK, isn’t this constant rain in June beginning to bother you? I know it’s bothering me, it’s supposed to feel like it’s summer, but, I’m still wearing my winter clothes!

As a light remedy (and distraction from the bad weather) I thought it would be fun to put together three summer looks that cope well with the rain. Note, they all feature sturdy, or water proof-ish footwear! Enjoy!

For those who don’t live in the UK and are experiencing proper summer right now, I wish I was there! But, hopefully you’ll like these outfits, if not for practicality, just for their cuteness :)
